A new “career ready” standard in South Carolina has been established for students in career and technical education (CTE). Industry certifications (credentials) are no longer counted the same. A point system is now in place designating the difficulty of attaining that certification and its value to employers. Students who complete coursework in a “Career Pathway” and achieve the needed points in industry certifications become a “Career Ready CTE Completer.”

School districts in South Carolina are losing a large and growing amount of local revenue for school operations from the property tax exemption for primary residence homes and corporate tax abatements such as FILOTs.  In combination, the net operations loss for all school districts in South Carolina is nearing $1.5 billion per year and growing.
